    What Can I Win?

SOE will select two winners, one EverQuest player and one EverQuest II player. Winners will receive:

    • The winner's image likeness painted into a Legends of Norrath card for release in a future Legends of Norrath set by artist Kieran Yanner
    • A trip to the SOE Fan Faire 2008 for the unveiling of their image at the Grand Banquet, August 16, 2008

Here are some examples of how Kieran has turned ordinary EQ and EQII players into Legends of Norrath icons!

Feel free to go above and beyond these examples for your entry! Tie a bath towel around your neck for a flowing cape. Hold a rake in front of you as a menacing halberd. Shine the light up from the floor or from overhead to create interesting shadows. The more you give Kieran to work with, the more interesting your image is and the better chance you have to win!

    Where do you live?

    Oregon.

How long have you played LoN?

Just after the release of the game, I got a postcard from SOE offering free game time to come back to EQ2 and some free stuff for LoN.

Do you play Stargate, Star Chamber or Pirates CSG?

    No.

Do you play any physical TCGs?

No, I don't. Years ago I played MTG but I sold my collection after just a few expansions.

What got you into gaming and what sort of games do you like the most?

I have been playing all kinds of games since childhood. In grade school I played D&D and I have always liked video games. Growing up I went through all kinds of console games starting with, believe it or not, Pong, then Atari, Sega Genesis, Playstation, etc. I eventually ditched the console for the PC.

What type of work do you do?

    I am a certified Locksmith.

What other hobbies or activities do you take part in, other than LoN?

I like snowboarding, basketball, playing other online games etc.

What is your favorite deck type?

I don't really have a favorite but I prefer a deck that is faster to one that stalls or grinds out a win. I have problems with the clock, LOL.

What is your favorite card (playability-wise)?

Again, I don't have a favorite but I like cards that have multiple purposes.

What is your favorite card (art-wise)?

Glowing Dagger of the Arcanist. It's just a very beautiful and hot picture.:)

What type of TCG player are you? For example, are you an Art Lover, a Competitor, an Innovator?

I'm a little of everything, but Competitor above all else.

What do you like best about LoN?

    The monthly CQ.

Could you describe, in brief, a memorable game you had, or opponent you faced, and why it stands out in your mind?

Uway ... what can I say? I spend so much time thinking about my moves against him that I have lost to the clock more than anything else. He beats me every time!

Do you run or work for an OSG or TCG Fan Site?

    No.

What is one thing no one would ever suspect about you?

When I was younger I wanted to be a professional snowboarder. I entered several competitions, amateur and pro. Sadly, it never panned out.

Feel free to leave Sylvanking a friendly note in the Legends of Norrath forums!

  • That time of year is almost here...

The time when SOE players from near and far gather in one place to celebrate their favorite MMOs by engaging in fun, food and fraternization! But there will be some that walk among the crowd... a couple players so respected by their gaming peers that they will have the distinct honor of being crowned SOE's second annual Players of the Year!

Will you be one of them?

To celebrate the 2008 Las Vegas Fan Faire (Aug. 14-17), Sony Online Entertainment will select and bring two lucky players to the Hilton Hotel to join in the festivities. So, here's your chance to nominate a friend (or even yourself) for this coveted title! We want to know who YOU think is the most deserving and why.

From Wednesday, July 2, 2008, (12:01 am, US Pacific Time) through Friday, July 11, 2008 at (11:59 pm, US Pacific Time), Sony Online Entertainment will be hosting the Official Fan Faire "Players of the Year" contest. Participating games include EverQuest, EverQuest II, Star Wars Galaxies, Vanguard: Saga of Heroes, EverQuest Online Adventures, The Matrix Online and PlanetSide.

Good luck to everyone and we hope to see you all in Las Vegas for Fan Faire!

    Contest:
Do you know someone who is the poster child for your MMO? Someone so dedicated that they walk around bloodshot and sleep deprived in their favorite wrinkled gaming T-shirts and baseball caps (what else would they be wearing?). Someone who goes so above and beyond the call of duty helping other community members in-game, out-of-game and everywhere in-between that they're practically an online Mother Theresa? Well, they just might be the perfect candidate for SOE Player of the Year and we want to know more about them!

Nominate a fellow player (or yourself) by writing a 200 word (or less) letter or role-play story explaining why the person deserves to be an SOE Player of the Year. Optional - you can also include a link to an image (screen capture, artwork, video or photo) with your entry as support for your story but please note that a written submission is still required.

Hundreds of players stopped in for some great nightly game play and rivalries and competitions are already being formed! We've also been listening closely to your feedback on the events. Based on that, we have decided to make a couple of changes to the way players earn Sprint reward promo cards. Players will now earn Sprint promo cards at the following rate:

    30 Sprint Points = 1 Promo Card
    40 Sprint Points = 2 Promo Cards
    50 Sprint Points = 3 Promo Cards
    60 Sprint Points = 4 Promo Cards
    70 Sprint Points = 4 Promo Cards + 1 Foil Promo Card
    80 Sprint Points = 4 Promo Cards + 2 Foil Promo Cards
    90 Sprint Points = 4 Promo Cards + 3 Foil Promo Cards
    100+ Sprint Points = 4 Promo Cards + 4 Foil Promo Cards

Players will still earn their Sprint Medal at the previously established Sprint Point rate. This is a change only for the promo cards. We hope this will make a more enjoyable play experience for the players and we appreciate your dedication and support for Legends of Norrath!

  • Your job as an Inquisitor for the Tribunal is coming to an end, and not a moment too soon. The work was dangerous and unsettling, even for a hardened adventurer like yourself. Towards the end, it seemed as if some very odd orders were coming from the Tribunal, ones that just didn't sit right with you. Your skills as an Inquisitor will enable you to discover the Chaos plot within the Oathbound and save the Tribunal!

The latest expansion to Legends of Norrath offers over 250 cards with new abilities, items, avatars and races, as well as new scenario rewards and raids. Fight your way past former allies and friends to join the final battle with the Mistress of Chaos herself, and become a true Legend of Norrath.

Check out all the fantastic details on the Oathbreaker page!

  • This week we had a tie vote for Caption of the Week:

"'Twas no ordinary curse you see. Poor Borris, Horras, and Norres were forced to sing 'She'll Be Coming Around the Mountain' for all eternity. 'Tis a wise idea to steer clear of Hilda the Cruel's panty drawer, lad..."

"The Restless Three are looking for another member; they are performing the song of your demise."

Thanks and congratulations to Lornick and Uway for supplying this week's winning captions!

  • Legends of Norrath™ Oathbreaker will be released this week and the new loot has been posted!

    Well, almost.

Oathbreaker is the final release in the first block of Legends of Norrath and SOE has pulled out all of the stops to make this one of the best sets yet!

If you have visited the Oathbreaker Loot page, you'll notice that not all of the loot is being shown. Some mysterious loot cards are branded with a "?" and an ominous message reading, "To be revealed soon!" The category will tell you the type of object but not necessarily its exact identity! What are the hidden mounts in EverQuest® and EverQuest® II? Are the pets in EQ so horrifying or wonderful that they must remain unseen? What shiny baubles await the anxious players in EQII?

Join us on the LoN forums all weekend long to see these hidden treasures revealed as they appear in Oathbreaker booster packs from the Station Store or through in-game booster pack drops in EQ and EQII!

Discuss the new loot in the forums!

  • Oathbreaker Avatars
    By Chuck Kallenbach

Now that we've increased the limit on your custom avatars due to popular demand, you'll have lots of room to experiment with all the new avatar texts for Oathbreaker! We're adding two new races to bring the total to 12 different races, 24 images and 36 kinds of game text! As we continue to add the player races from EverQuest and EverQuest II, the new ones are Froglok and Erudite.

At long last, the mighty Frogloks, striving to purge villainy and corruption from Norrath, are now available for you to use as avatars. One of the Froglok game texts helps you gain power, and another heals damage on a unit.

This one is designed to help your AvA (avatar-versus-avatar) deck designs. It's easy to pack a deck with lots of ways to begin combat against an opposing avatar, but the problem comes with subsequent combats on the same turn. When both your avatars are exerted, the combat totals are tied and you both take damage. Here's a way to boost your attack and make sure you're dishing out damage without taking any.

You'll also find as new avatar selections the magical Erudites, accumulating arcane knowledge and mystical power. The Erudite game texts have one that helps your questing decks and another that exerts opposing units.

The third text features a "Whirlwind Attack" kind of effect, with a couple of important differences. Of course, because the game text is on your avatar, it's always available and reusable. Unlike the Fighter ability, you can't choose whether you want to use it or not. You'll have to develop a deck strategy that either doesn't play any friendly units (like an aggressive quester), or plays units that you don't mind destroying (like ones that get attack boosts when you play them).

With six new avatar texts in Oathbreaker, you'll find lots of new possibilities to boost your current decks and maybe even find a few ideas for new ones!

  • To Save The Tribunal
    By Chuck Kallenbach, Game Designer

Our fourth set is the conclusion to the Oathbound block, in which the saga of your Oathbound hero comes to a final conclusion. At the end of the last campaign, you were finishing up your stint as an Inquisitor and finding the work somewhat distasteful.

When the story picks up again, you're given more onerous jobs to complete. At the same time, you discover that a powerful minion of Chaos has been posing as another Inquisitor to attack the Oathbound and The Tribunal from within.

In fact, this mysterious figure was previously shown on the card Heresy, burning an unfortunate victim at the stake. Her overzealous tactics to enforce the tenets of Order are a clue to her true nature. Heristine is the name she has taken as an Inquisitor, and you must track her down to get to the bottom of this plot.

Your reward for escaping her the first time is the cape she flings to the ground to reveal her true self. The abilities displayed on the Heresy card are embodied in this armor item. As befits an artifact from a true Mistress of Chaos, you'll need a lot of power to use it properly.

Along the way you'll make a fateful decision that turns your Oathbound allies into newfound enemies. Confrontations with Cyndra, Terin, Eluviel, and Karlemayn will be tests of your devotion and persuasion.

Before your final confrontation with this Mistress of Chaos, you'll encounter some old adversaries. Zelos, the Overlord of Decay, has been brought back to life. He's used his necromantic powers to raise some of the other Chaos enemies from your past to battle you once again.

The result is a battle royale featuring a four-on-four beginning that's a first for our series of scenarios. Once you've defeated Zelos, your prize will be the banner he threw down when he became a Forsworn and Oathbreaker. This item card helps to offset the extra effort it takes to complete a quest by rewarding you with extra cards.

The last few scenarios for Oathbreaker have some new parameters to make them extra challenging. In your final trial, you'll meet one more fateful enemy. Once you've defeated him, your crusade to save the Oathbound and The Tribunal will be complete.

I used to play Magic and Five Rings, but haven't played either in a very long time.

What got you into gaming and what sort of games do you like the most?

My parents had Pong when I was about three and I used to beg quarters constantly for Pac-Man. When I was five or six my uncle introduced me to the Commodore 64 and I was instantly hooked. I tend to prefer adventure style games (Zelda, EverQuest, and Warcraft) but I also have a strong love for strategic gaming (Chess, Stratego, and CCGs).

What type of work do you do?

    I'm an IT geek. =)

What other hobbies or activities do you take part in, other than LoN?

I hit the gym three or four times a week and I love me some MMOs. I also like to experiment with the many different ways one can mix and imbibe alcohol and am constantly trying to increase my knowledge of the world's wines.

What is your favorite deck type?

I tend to prefer decks that maintain control of the board. I'd prefer to hold my opponent helpless every step of the way rather than gamble on a quicker/easier win. I will however play what I think works best in the current meta, and sometimes gambling is it.

What is your favorite card (playability-wise)?

I think that my favorite card would have to be Lord Nagafen. He's one of the few creatures that can't simply be put off or ignored. He has an immediate game changing affect when he hits play and he absolutely has to be dealt with. Granted, he's a bit expensive, but that's what Reanimate is for. =)

What is your favorite card (art-wise)?

I love the art on Queen Cristanos Thex. In EverQuest and EverQuest II I played Dark Elves pretty much exclusively. The art for the Queen is the perfect blend of ego and malice; it captures the essence of the Tier'dal. Long live the queen!

What type of TCG player are you? For example, are you an Art Lover, a Competitor, an Innovator?

    I am somewher
